Big Meet on Recent Advances in Cataract & Refractive Surgery

Two of the most commonly performed ocular surgeries today are for cataract and the correction of refractive errors of the eye. Recent advances in technology and technique, make both surgeries safer and more effective for the patient.

Dr Srinivas K Rao, has been performing Cataract surgery for the past 20 years, and was one of the first to start Excimer surgery in India, way back in 1996. Given his expertise in corneal diseases, he was invited to deliver a lecture on the Management of Cataract in Patients with Corneal Disease. The lecture was attended by over 600 delegates from all over India and was well received.

In some patients, cataract surgery may have to be performed in the presence of co-existing corneal disease. This makes surgery more challenging, and special precautions are needed to ensure that the cataract surgery results in good outcomes.

Dr Rao explained his approach to such problems.

He discussed the following areas –

Cataract surgery in –

  1. Small and large corneas
  2. Corneal shape problems
  3. Corneal clarity loss
  4. Weak endothelium
  5. Ocular surface disease
  6. Systemic problems
