About 250 delegates attended the International Meet on Intraocular Surgery – during which all manner of ocular surgeries were discussed.
Dr Srinivas K Rao was invited to share his techniques of Pterygium surgery and also to update the audience on the Current Surgical Options for Reconstruction of the Ocular Surface. The talks were well received.
A Pterygium is a wing shaped extension of the conjunctiva onto the corneal surface. The lesion gradually extends into the visual axis, resulting in poor vision for the patient.
Earlier surgical techniques resulted in a high recurrence rate of the lesion. Dr Rao is a pioneer in the surgical management of this condition and was one of the first in India to perform the technique of Conjunctival grafting – back in 1992, which results in excellent outcomes’
