Dr Rao has been invited by Sankara Hospitalsin Coimbatore and Bangalore to head their center for Keratoprosthesis research. He also visits Bangalore once a month to see and operate on patients with difficult corneal problems. During his visit to the center in May, he conducted a CME on Corneal Infections for the PGs in Bangalore. The lecture was sent by videoconferencing to the centers in Coimbatore, Guntur and Krishnankoil.
A wide variety of pathogens – bacteria, fungi, viruses, parasites and mixed infections can affect the cornea with serious implications for vision. A good microbiologist is needed to help manage such patients and Dr Shobana – MD microbiology does this important job at Darshan. With her expert help, Dr Rao is able to successfully treat patients referred to Darshan with advanced corneal infections.
