DARSHAN EYE CARE

Cataract Surgery In Both Eyes In a 2-month-old Baby

Cataract surgery is considered a routine surgical procedure – in adults. In Infants (< one year), with cataracts from birth, it is more complicated.General anaesthesia in Infants can be challenging.

The Infant eye is very small, more delicate and tissue handling is difficult.Implanting an Intraocular lens in such an eye is fraught with complications.Hence, lensectomy (complete removal) is done to clear the visual pathways. After this, contact lens fitting is done to ensure clear images on the Retina.Further exercises are need to ensure proper development of vision.IOL is implanted when the child is older if present surgery leaves a support.Usually, such rocedures are done in Tertiary Institutes. This is because of expertise, equipment, and support service requirements.

Darshan Eye Care recently successfully performed Infant cataract surgery.
Drs Sanjeev & Srinivas did the surgery – Dr Josephine helped in all steps.
Dr Vijay and Dr Vijayaragini provided expert general anaesthesia.
The OT team – Ms Ulagammal, Mr Nagraj, Mr Chiranjeevi helped.
The Ward team – Ms Malliga, Mr Thiagarajan looked after the child.
The Front Office – Ms Roopa, Mr Stalin, Mr Prem helped coordinate surgery.
