CME at Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Govt Ophthalmic Hospital - 31 August 2019
CME at Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Govt Ophthalmic Hospital, 31 August 2019 The Govt Ophthalmic Institute at Egmore, is the second oldest Ophthalmic Institute in the World, after Moorfield’s Eye Institute in London. A Cornea CME was conducted in August and Dr Srinivas K Rao was invited to Chair an important session on Corneal Surgery and speak about the important topics of Anterior and Posterior Lamellar Corneal Surgery at the Meet. The meet was well attended by over 100 Ophthalmologists and Post-graduates.
In his talk, Dr Rao highlighted the importance of a proper and thorough understanding of Corneal anatomy to perform the advanced surg ical techniques of lamellar corneal surgery – wherein only the diseased layers of the cornea are replaced – either the anterior layers in Keratoconus, or the posterior layers in Corneal edema, unlike the earlier approach, in which the entire thickness of the cornea was replaced. The newer techniqueshaveless complications and better postoperative outcomes.
