Dry eye and Ocular Surface Disease are becoming an increasingly common eye problem. This is related to various factors related to our current day lifestyles. While they begin with seemingly innocuous problems related to irritation and other symptoms, if untreated they can progress quickly to vision loss and serious problems in the Cornea and Ocular surface. In order to help propagate knowledge and share his approach to these conditions, Dr Srinivas K Rao was asked to do a series of webcasts on this. He did the first one in July 2019, on “Algorithmic approach to various conditions affecting the Ocular Surface”. The second in the series titled
“Optimal use and interpretation of Clinical tests to diagnose Ocular Surface Disease” was done in August 2019. The webcast was broadcast from Darshan Eye Care and was viewed all over India and in other countries in the Asia-Pacific. There were more than 1500 log-ins for this telecast. The web based approach allows speakers to interact with the audience and also answer questions at the end of the talk. This approach allows a wider reach, and is both time and expense saving. 2 more talks are planned for September and October 2019, to complete the series. The feedback on these talks has been most positive.
The easy testing and diagnosis of conditions affecting the Ocular Surface is facilitated at Darshan Eye Care by the use of the above device, which in a single test is able to detect the disturbances in the various aspects of the Ocular Surface and provides a comprehensive summary report of these changes. Using this information, it is relatively simple to diagnose the specific problems in that eye and evolve a suitable treatment strategy.
