A pterygium is a growth of conjunctiva over the clear cornea. It is very common in India and unless operated using the right technique, can cause serious problems in the eye.

Dr Srinivas K Rao has published extensively on the use of conjunctival autografting for this condition – a surgery that he introduced to India in the 1990’s. His video on the management of this common condition was played at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and was much appreciated.
